I am Chinese-Vietnamese American. During the Vietnam War, my family received aid from a number of humanitarian organizations, so I have always understood first-hand the powerful impact of international organizations that help families in need. Once the war ended, my family lived in refugee camps in the Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong before finally settling in Sacramento, California.

As an adult, I wanted to find a way to affiliate myself with international organizations whose programs serve the world’s most vulnerable people, my family included. I became the first person in my family to obtain a Master in Public Administration from Baruch College, my first step towards realizing my passion to be affiliated with these organizations.

Nine years ago, Helen Keller International posted about an opportunity in fundraising, and I was one of hundreds that applied for the position. Through a combination of work experience and education, I was able to catch the Vice President’s attention and was hired to join a small fundraising team. I felt so lucky to have been chosen for the position.

I am very proud to be a part of an organization that helps millions of people, particularly women and children. Our Development and Communications team works extremely hard to maintain the high standards of the organization. As a Development Manager, I am in charge of maintaining data integrity, honoring donor wishes, and accurately tracking information, all of which are responsibilities I am proud of.

We are always working hard to maintain the trust and loyalty of our donors, and to use their contributions in the most cost-efficient and effective way possible. That is what I find most rewarding about working for Helen Keller. We are constantly improving and assuring the welfare of impoverished children and adults — both across the ocean and here at home.
