The Indonesia Crisis Bulletin series was developed to share findings from quarterly nutrition and health surveillance conducted by HKI in Indonesia in response to the need to monitor the health impact of the Indonesian economic crisis that began in 1997.

As the country began to recover, the Indonesia Crisis Bulletin broadened its scope to monitor the impacts of other key developments in Indonesia, including efforts to expand and strengthen the national vitamin A supplementation program, the transition to a decentralized health infrastructure, and other issues affecting the nutrition and health of Indonesia's most vulnerable populations. The Nutrition and Health Surveillance System in Indonesia ceased operations in early 2004.
