Cameroon: Balanced diet training ends in Douala
To prevent micronutrient deficiencies, Helen Keller International is working to make food fortification commonplace in West Africa. We collaborate on large-scale efforts in partnership with the private sector to fortify essential cooking ingredients such as cooking oil and wheat flour with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, iron and folic acid.
The government of Cameroon has recently mandated that wheat flour be fortified with iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and folic acid, and that cooking oil be fortified with vitamin A.
HKI held a training to help state agents who will monitor these products better enusre complaince. Participants visited markets, shops, and supermarkets to verify if refined cooking oils and wheat flour are fortified.
