Worms Not Welcome: HKI Aims to Eliminate NTDs in Cameroon
Yaoundé, Cameroon - In September 2009, Helen Keller International (HKI), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health (MOH), officially launched a comprehensive effort to control the public health threat of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The goal of the newly-formed National Neglected Tropical Diseases Control Program is to reach every Cameroonian with interventions that reduce the burden of these debilitating diseases.
Cameroon is uniquely positioned to make major advances to reduce, and in some cases, eliminate, NTDs. The government is committed to this public health issue and has strong experience running similar programs. In addition, there are a number of development partners working in NTD control in the country.
