"3 Things You Can Do to Empower Women"
Husband-and-wife Pulitzer Prize winners Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn emphasize the importance of HKI's nutrition work with children and their mothers in a recent article in O Magazine. They argue that empowering women is the key to economic progress. Among their suggestions are to donate to Helen Keller International. Among its many programs to reduce malnutrition and prevent blindness, HKI helps iodize salt in poor countries. Many poor pregnant women don't get enough iodine, so their fetuses' brains do not develop properly. HKI's program costs only a few pennies per year per person.
