Global Food Crisis Affects 1 Billion; HKI Responds

New York, NY - With attention focused on the turmoil of the economic crisis, the global food crisis has been forgotten by many in the international community. Its devastating impact on the poorest of the poor must continue to be addressed. The world has a moral obligation to act quickly to alleviate the deepening hunger and suffering of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, as well as self- interest in preventing this food crisis from escalating, in the words of U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, into “a multidimensional problem affecting economic growth, social progress, and even political security around the world.”
