Policy Statement

Accountability, transparency and openness are the pillars of good governance. As such, Helen Keller Intl ensures that we are fully accountable to our community of stakeholders for our actions and the manner in which these actions are transparent to the public. Helen Keller Intl demonstrates our commitment to accountability and transparency by providing a framework of policies, procedures and practices that create sound governance, sustainability and are fully integrated into Helen Keller Intl organizational metrics and standards. Our policies and procedures incorporate, among many other standards, the requirements for the U.S. Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act and are divided into two complementary categories:

  1. Financial accountability, oversight and reporting. Helen Keller Intl is open, accountable and transparent to our stakeholders in our financial reporting and transactions. Our policies and procedures demonstrate organizational best-practice standards for financial accountability, and oversight and reporting mechanisms.
  2. Internal accountability and ethical standards. Helen Keller Intl’s administrative policies, procedures and practices require and ensure specific accountability on the part of our employees at all levels, in all locations worldwide.

Responsibilities

All Helen Keller Intl staff are responsible for adhering to the parameters of this policy and for ensuring accountability for their actions and transparency of Helen Keller Intl operations.

Monitoring and Reporting Procedures

As described in the Helen Keller Intl Code of Conduct and Ethics and Whistleblower policies, Helen Keller Intl has an open door reporting policy and recommends that any questions, concerns, suggestions or suspected violation related to this policy be reported directly to: Human Resources or Regional Office or President’s Office or write to whistleblower@hki.org. Anonymous reporting of suspicions or violations may be sent via an unsigned letter to Helen Keller Intl, One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, Floor 2, New York, NY 10017 USA. However, Helen Keller Intl encourages employees to report openly in order to assist with the conduct of investigations.
