What do NBC News Anchor Brian Williams and Helen Keller have in common?

Brian & Kathy

This blog is written by Peggy O’Neill, HKI’s Vice President of Development, Individual Giving.

Seeing world renowned television journalist and HKI champion, Brian Williams back on air last night with the return of Rock Center, reminded me of this year’s Spirit of Helen Keller Gala.

During the festive evening, Brian shared a touching personal story of how his father, Gordon Williams, and Helen Keller worked together during World War II to help rehabilitate soldiers blinded in the war.  This year’s record-breaking Gala raised over $1 million for Helen Keller International’s sight- and life-saving programs worldwide.  If you missed this festive evening, we’d love to have you at next year’s Spirit of Helen Keller Gala. Email me if you have any questions about our events or how to become more involved with HKI!

In the meantime, Brian’s story was so inspirational I thought I would share it with you.  Please watch the video below to hear about Gordon and Helen’s special connection!
